Lourdes Yvette's Story

Life 2/26/2010 Well, HELLO, everyone. As of the last time I updated my bio I am still with my honey of three years. However, now I am happy to report that we are getting married in October 2010. We are each other's best friend. We do everything together. I am very happy, thank God. We have everything in common and love the exact same things. We laugh together a lot. I am still working for YISD. I recently graduated from grad school and received my masters degree. For those of you that knew me real well... my mom is OK, off and on. You know they are getting up there in age now. My brother is fine, 17 yrs old and doing great in school! He is attending Cathedral H.S. He will be graduating this year. My how time has flown by. I am still active in my church and have grown in my catholic faith. I am now a lector and enjoy it very much. To all my DRUM CORPS sisters... I hope you ALL are fine! To my F.F.A buddies... stay young at heart and don't forget your roots (F.F.A roots, that is, since there is no more at YHS) Kiss your kids, call your parents, hug your wife, hubby or honey. Your friend, Yvette Fernandez School Well, as far as school goes... I miss Ysleta! My years there were wonderful. One says, "man I wish I was out of high school" and now one says, " man, I wish I was back." Funny how that is! I went to EPCC in Fall of'94 to pursue a career in Education. I worked while I went to school. That was no picnic. But it was life. I then went to UTEP concurrent with EPCC in '98. That's when I had to quit my job to go to both colleges. It was very hard to quit my job. I enjoyed going to work and school and then rush back to work since I had split shift. I met and married my husband in '97 and'98. Everything changed when I married. I had other goals by this time and I just knew I had to finish what I started. I graduated from UTEP in December 2000. However, ask me if I am a teacher, and sadly I am to answer no. That's for me as far as college goes. Although I enjoyed it immensely and learned a lot, after getting married and being so involved in my husband's company I just changed my life's original plans.UPDATE!! I finally got my state certification in Special ED and have returned to school to obtain my masters in elementary ed. College As far as college goes...I learned a lot, met great and wonderful people, especially when it came down to study groups...Expand for more
...OMG! What great fun we all had. My professors were the very best. I started at EPCC. I am so glad I did! People would joke about me starting my basics at EPCC but I didn't care. I would soon start seeing these at EPCC the second semester. BASICS at UTEP is somewhat a little more difficult, I was told. I had to take some history basics at UTEP and that was a little hard but fun. I took off two whole semesters in '96. That was a mistake! I regret it to this day. So of course I was behind everyone. I just got burned out because I was working and going to school at the same time. I then went concurrent with UTEP in '98. Went full time and did my internship at UTEP in the latter of '98 and graduated in December 2000. I graduated with Golden Key National Honors. I went to approx. 20 college semesters. I remember I made Dean's List for all of them except for maybe two or three of them. Let's just say, "I don't know where the hell that came from." Workplace Work, work, work! I love it. I thought I would have complained like other co-workers I have had, but I just loved working. In Fall '93 I started working at YISD as a School Bus Attendant. I got promoted as a School Bus Driver in Summer of '94. I worked there for five years. In '98 I had to quit because I had to go to UTEP full time. At this time I was already married. I started working for an Income Tax Prep company called M's Income Tax in October 98. I worked only part time. I became trained in preparing basic income tax returns. In '99 I worked for them again for the year's income tax season. I left early in March and then went to work for another company called Trucker's Home office. My insight in taxes grew even larger and this helped my husband and I in our business. I worked for them for only one month due to more training that I needed and they were shorthanded to do the training. I then went to work for Jackson Hewitt for the 2000 income tax season. It went very well for me and even got promoted to asst. manager. I got a 3% bonus in all income taxes I performed that year. Which amounted to about $450 extra. That was neat! They gave us a company party and recognized me as learning the Tax Program the fastest and even without me being trained through their program. I was self employed for a time. I owned a company called Transportation Dispatch Services. I am now working with YISD again.
